Hotel Sezz

Hotel sezz - Paris tvtrip

Designed by Starck protégé Christophe Pillet, the stunning Hotel Sezz in the 16th arrondissement of Paris is modern luxury decked out in classic attire. The interior is bright and airy, with hints of 21st Century futurism scattered amongst the more ornate finishings. The rooms are spacious and wickedly tempting, the overszied spa bath distracting mercilessly from the beautiful surrounds of the neighborhood, which happens to include a certain ubiquitous structure that’s just a hop, skip, and short dash away. This boutique hotel is boudoir chic, elegant and welcoming. Much like the rest of Paris, in fact. [photos by Alison Zavos]
Exclusively designed for Hotel Sezz by Christophe Pillet, my favourite thing is the circular pod seating, dominating the space with its bold graphic shape, stretching to the full height of the ceiling. The strips of lacquered birch wood formed in an upturned bell shape structurally support the raspberry leatherette seat and backrest. The inviting feminine curves of the seat and the contrasting colours have a sexy seductiveness. The cavities in between the strips have a playful peek-a-boo nature, creating an illusion of intimacy and protection, while performing well on functionality at the same time.
Inspired by the simplicity of the hemisphere shade, made from transparent methacrylate, its light and iridescent aesthetic, hangs like ‘soap bubbles’. The FL/Y Suspension Lamp is designed by Ferruccio Laviani and supplied by Kartell. Kartell was founded in Milan in 1949 under the direction of Giulio Castelli. Its main objective was to introduce plastics into the home - and it certainly does this with style!
My favourite thing... well, it’s not Aled bathing fully-clothed! It is however, this fantastic oval bath, made from polished concrete. In keeping with materials used elsewhere and cast in situ, the half-egg shaped basin has a beautiful handcrafted feel, displaying the imperfections that make it unique and full of character. Its simplicity and minimal form provide an emphasis for its surrounding beauty rather than detracting from it. The general design of the hotel brings the guests into contact with nature, and perching the bath towards the edge of the room is another nod in the direction of this concept, as the location leaves the guests not only bathing in a luxurious and natural setting, but literally exposed to the wilderness of the park.
Overview

On the left bank of the Seine, not far from the Eiffel Tower; tucked away in a quiet neighbourhood and hiding behind a classic façade, sits designer Christophe Pillet's dramatic and ultra-chic designer hotel.
Owner

Shahe Kalaidjian selected this informal spot for the hotel of his dreams.
History

Pillet has taken a former Best Western Hotel in the sleepy sixteenth arrondissement, away from the hustle and bustle of Paris, and turned it into a style-seeker's address. Visually striking and unconventional, Hotel Sezz blends into its surroundings with a classic-looking façade. The inside, however, is sleek, modern and pristine.
Features

The furnishings and décor are impossibly chic, with a colour palette of oranges, greens and reds. Pillet's personal touches include a sleek, firm sofa, desk with a mock-croc chair and a lozenge-like coffee table laden with art books. Each guestroom is anchored by a floating bed located right in the centre of the space, calling to mind a mid-afternoon tryst rather than a midday meeting. The real erotic centrepiece, however, is the peek-a-boo bathroom: A glass wall separates the bed from the deluxe shower - so you definitely don't want to share the room with a colleague. The concept was not to create a total look, but a mis-match of style, and a spirit and taste to link them together.
